Description
An Arctic tern uses an updraft to hover above the river in Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon of south Iceland, searching for a meal. Terns fly tens of thousands of kilometers each year from the south polar region to the north, where they nest and raise their young. Beautiful in flight, the terns can be vicious in defense of their nests, swarming to attack any intruder.
